] they brought us this wonderful machine! ;]
You are giving mickeysoft too much credit here. The MSX was not invented by
mickeysoft. That company was only hired to write the BASIC interpreter for
MSX. Mickeysoft had already written a basic interpreter for Z80, called
MBASIC, and therefore it was relatively easy for them to adapt it for a
homecomputer. Mickeysoft was hired to produce the BASIC for many
homecomputers back then.
Though, once mickeysoft had eXtended Mbasic to become MSX basic and once they
had stolen a stripped down CP/M version and called that MSXDOS, they dropped
MSX as a backstone. They kept the brandname, to get the license fee for EACH
and EVERY MSX computer or diskdrive interface that was sold but they did NOT
do any new developments for MSX any longer. As a result, MSXDOS for example
has been frozen from 1984 to 1989. Because only in 1989, Microsoft sold the
MSX brand name to ASCII corporation, enabling ASCII to release a product
called MSXDOS2. One consequense was that we did not get any system software
supporting the memory mapper at the moment that the memory mapper was
officially introduced. As a result, all programs using the memory mapper
conflicted with each other. This has caused a lot of damage to the MSX. Even
now, 10 years later, many programs can not run under the version of MSXDOS
that formally introduced support of the memory mapper.
So, now please tell me again if I have to stop complaining about microsoft.
Kind regards,
Alex Wulms
