That could be so, but if you load these OPL data into another OPL or 
in the custom voice register of OPLL, they don't sound exactly the 
same! Who can explain this?

Yes. I think an FM synthesis algorithm adjusted to OPLL parameters 
should give better results in matching the original sound than using 
an OPL3 for synthesis. The OPL3 just doesn't sounds quite like an 
OPLL IMHO.

BTW. FM synthesis rules for some purposes. It is greatly 
underappreciated! Just have a look at the Yamaha DX-7, still a 
classic.
