Why not Flash EPROM?
Flash is a "block device" while EEPROM can used as a
"character device."
The 28C256 EEPROM is pin-compatible to 32Kx8 SRAMs; the
29C256 Flash is pin-compatible to 32Kx8 EPROMs.
