Theoretically it can be done though, with some hacking. It would require that
the track on the LD which contains the program is sampled and then extracted
to get the real binary data. (Sean, could imgtool do this? It should be in
cassette format anyway, this data...)
Then the ROM of the Pioneer should be debugged to find out how it exactly
controls the LDP (assuming the software on the LD accesses the LD via this
ROM). Then a compatible ROM should be made for the G900, that controls the LDP
via the RS-232 port. If this can be done, it should work!
The hardest part is of course to figure out how that Pioneer ROM exactly works
and then make a compatible ROM for the Sony. Bifi already made a 'cracked'
versoin of the Sony ROM (Video Utility), which is now in the final stage of
betatesting. With this I could control my LDP-1550 with my G900P, although it
doesn't have the original ROM anymore (it got lost when the diskROM was
replaced (probably it was in the same EPROM)).
So if someone can dump the ROM of the Pioneer and has time and interest, this
could be done... :)
