Hi,
I made a stupid speed test between Sunrise, Gradiente and ASCII
RS232 interfaces under UZIX. The test was just connecting to the
Internet
and 'pinging' www.msx.org. I know that this test lacks seriousness (the
network speed has a big influence and my modems are all 2400bps) but it
can give an idea of speed. I'll make a serious test only when I buy a
DB25/DB9 adapter to use with Sunrise RS232. So I can test only the
serial traffic between MSX and my PC.
But let's go to the results:
PING www.msx.org, minimum/average/maximum times in ms.
2400bps connection, using UOL ISP.
Sunrise RS232: 833/1086/1241
ASCII RS232, DMA on: 1088/1191/1258
ASCII RS232, DMA off: 1105/1584/1733ms
Gradiente RS232: 1139/1539/1615
Connection and autentication time on UOL, at 2400bps
Sunrise RS232: 14.75s
ASCII RS232, DMA on: 15.17s
ASCII RS232, DMA off: 15.57s
Gradiente RS232: 15.97s
BTW, my modem has a little problem with Sunrise RS232 at
2400bps. The modem receives "AT", sends "OK" but the next line
received by the modem is garbage. But if I use 9600bps, nothing
goes wrong. AFAIK, even setting RS232 to 9600bps, the modem and
the serial interface will exchange data at 2400bps, since it's the
maximum speed supported by my modem. Is this right? Anyone knows
what can be wrong (not the 16550 timings, since I checked them and
they are right)?
Oh, and FudeBrowZer is working very fine... :)
