Yes, that's a good thought. But that won't stop people linking them and downloading the files from other sites (but linking sites would have to supply the password). Since they're using PHP, if they wanted other sites to stop linking to their files, they could've just have written a short download script which wouldn't serve any file unless the referrer was their own site.
