MUSHIHIMESAMA: TO SHINJUGAMORI BY DARIA, DRM AND HACKURL (2005-07-11 22:40:03)

The Japanese chiptune composers Daria, DRM and Hackurl frequently appear on the
MRC frontpage, as they regularly release tunes created on, or inspired by the
MSX. Recently, Daria decided to start a "Let's make impossible covers with
PSG"-challenge, resulting in 3 PSG arrangements of the same song:
Mushihimesama: To Shinjugamori. If you want to hear the results, you can
download a different MP3 file of the same song on the websites of each
composer. More semi-impossible PSG cover challenges are expected to be
organized in the future.

GIVE THE ONE CHIP MSX A NEW NAME CHALLENGE (2005-07-10 23:00:19)

As you all probably know by now ASCII intend to commercially produce a new MSX
computer, the One Chip MSX. Earlier today, Bazix started taking pre-orders on
the one chip MSX over here, making it available to the non-Japanese market as
well.

As with MSXPLAYer, ASCII would like the MSX Community to think of a new name
for this new product. Hence, a new MRC Challenge is born: the 'Give the One
Chip MSX a new name'-challenge.

In this forum thread on our MSX Forum you can post your suggestions on what you
think would be a good name for the One Chip MSX. Please have a good look at the
first post of the forum thread, which explains how suggestions should be
submitted. You can send your suggestions in until August 20th, 2005, 23:59 CET.
After that, a jury will take a good look at the suggestions offered by the MSX
community on MRC and Japanese community platforms and select a winning name.
The members of this jury are still to be announced, as is the prize for the
person who sends in the winning name.

So, would you like to enter the history books as the person who found the name
for the new MSX computer platform? Post your suggestions right here, right now!

2000 ONE CHIP MSX COMPUTERS SOLD (2005-07-10 17:22:32)

On May 20th, ASCII started taking pre-orders on the new One Chip MSX. Within a
week, 1000 devices were pre-ordered. It took almost 2 months before the 2000
milestone was reached. It looks like accomplishing the minimum amount of 5000
One Chip MSX computers required to make commercial production possible is going
to be quite a challenge.

At the current rate of pre-orders, it looks like ASCII is not going to make it.
However, with other MSX revival projects like the MSX Magazines and MSX Game
Reader they managed to turn a slow start into quite a success.

Earlier today the odds were increased by the Dutch company Bazix, who opened up
a One Chip MSX pre-order page, allowing people living outside Japan to obtain a
One Chip MSX as well. Now that the One Chip MSX has become available worldwide,
it will be interesting to see if and when the 5000 pre-order barrier can be
accomplished.

ONE CHIP MSX AVAILABLE OUTSIDE JAPAN (2005-07-10 03:54:25)

On May 20th, ASCII opened up their Japanese One Chip MSX pre-order page and
started taking orders on the new MSX computer from Japanese MSX fans.

Today, an important step in the MSX revival was taken. For the first time, a
product resulting from the MSX revival has become available, officially,
outside the Japanese market. As of today, the One Chip MSX can also be
pre-ordered from outside Japan with Bazix, the Dutch company that represents
MSX Association outside the Japanese market.

According to the One Chip MSX page on the Bazix website, their One Chip MSX
will come with an English manual, a 220V adapter or 110V converter plug and a
simple casing. The One Chip MSX can be pre-ordered right here for 189,-
(about $225,-) including VAT. Thanks to FPGA technology, the functionality of
the device can be changed without performing any physical hardware
modifications. An upgrade to make the device completely MSX2 compatible will be
released in the future.

Needless to say this is a great step for the international MSX community, as
the One Chip MSX is the first MSX computer to be officially distributed outside
the Japanese market since the MSX2, which was introduced more than 20 years
ago.

David Heremans has released a TCL script with which the Vdrive feature of
blueMSX can be mimiced in openMSX.

With the vDrive feature you can select multiple disk images to be used in the
