Hi David:

Um. You should address your remarks to the OP, and not me.

That said, I also think you should seriously consider reducing the
amplitude of your remarks if you want to be an effective advocate for
free software.

I run Debian Jessie myself and I have been exclusively using Linux
since 1996 (aside from some dabbling with Wine). But I would frankly
be annoyed by your "move to Linux if you want to get anything done"
tone if I were a Microsoft Windows user. Wouldn't you be annoyed if
someone said "Move to Microsoft Windows if you wanted to get anything
done"? Everybody has the freedom to use any platform they like. If
it is right for their needs, then it is right.

Where I am coming from is I believe Microsoft Windows is a fine
ecosystem to populate with free (as in freedom) software. So I think
it is great that Cygwin and MinGW-w64/MSYS2 are helping so much with
that effort. Furthermore, I am interested in both platforms because
some of my fellow PLplot developers with access to computers with the
Microsoft Windows OS, have been able to build and thoroughly test a
powerful version of PLplot both on the Cygwin and MinGW-w64/MSYS2
platforms, and it might turn out at some stage that they will help in
the packaging effort for PLplot on both those platforms.
