Hopefully this gets through, I'm away from home and sending via a dodgy
link. If you can hold on until next weekend, 7 days away, I am planning to post
to the list full instructions on how to make Barry.
Barry is the name of the dev environment I was setting up in the original
email. I eventually got it to work and has now been used by over 500 students
over 3 semesters. The only problems occur when unskilled students attempt
independent thought ;)

Subject: [Msys2-users] About creating a portable (pen drive) MSYS2 installation
I have read this old post (*):
https://sourceforge.net/p/msys2/mailman/message/34734957
where the suggestions to create the user home seem to work but I notice that
the prompt still use the Windows user. More precisely:
Suppose one adds
db_home: /home/John_Done
then it creates /home/John_Done, i.e.
$ echo $HOME
/home/John_Done
and this is good, very good.
But the prompt still shows
angelo@Vega MSYS ~
and not
John_Done@Vega MSYS ~
i.e.
$ echo $USER
angelo
Is there a trick to do the same with USER, so that it prints:
$ echo $USER
John_Done
?
(a similar trick should also be valid to change the computer name, Vega ->
Moon, or the group, None -> John_Done, if possible).
Thanks,
Angelo.

(*) The author should give more details how to create his portable environment
and you should add them to your Wiki.
