Hi Hannes, I tried it both ways. My first thought in fact was that the Windows CMD shell might be the bug, so I moved to the msysgit shell but it still happened. I installed in the mode where Git has overwritten the Windows environment with UNIX find, sort, etc. Then the problem happens both in CMD and the shell. The bash config issue has been solved for me by fixing /etc/passwd. So unless anyone has further questions about me about reproducing the --upload-pack problem, I will leave it to others who have accounts on the bug tracker to decide if this issue is important enough to track.
