Right. Any pager works now, in the sense that color.diff=auto will not output control sequences when git is writing to a pipe. "less version 418" claims to support control codes, and could in theory work with color.diff=always. Too bad it's GPL3, or I'd look at it in more detail to see if there was any code worth borrowing.
