Join the founding team of the Surrey Institute for People-Centred
Artificial Intelligence, a truly innovative and cross-disciplinary
environment putting people at the heart of AI. You will pioneer the
future of trustworthy, responsible and inclusive AI for education,
healthcare, wellbeing, social interaction, entertainment, work and
sustainability. We are looking for the next generation of inspiring
research leaders with a passion for shaping AI to create a brighter
future for everyone. A total of 12 new academic appointments will be
made, including one in the area of Natural Language Processing.
*About the NLP appointment*
The appointee will be expected to lead research, collaboration and
project grant applications in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural
Language Processing (NLP) aligned with the AI Institute research
strategy in People-centred AI. The post holder will establish and lead a
portfolio of research, in collaboration with domain experts across the
University.
The postholder will have experience in one or more of the following
areas: multimodal information processing, integration of computer vision
and natural language processing, and/or multimodal machine translation,
in this way benefitting and/or complementing the existing expertise in
the university in the areas of signal processing, and language, speech
and translation technology in the Centre for Vision, Speech, and Signal
Processing and the Centre for Translation Studies. Regardless of the
research background of the appointed person, it is expected that they
will be carry out research which considers the “human-in-the-loop”.
The appointee will teach in the School of Computer Science and
Electronic Engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in
both his/her specialist areas in addition to general contribution with
the Department programmes. The post holder will also contribute to
leading and delivering teaching in cross-University AI programmes at
postgraduate level.
