--- QUERY I SENT by Septembre 9, 1999 ---

I am collecting some information about MT techniques:
- bilingual,
- transfer,
- interlingual,
- translation memory,
- statistical,
- example-based or corpus-based,
- etc.

Maybe someone already have some text about that
(description or comparison of these techniques).

Dear Malek,

It is not easy to give a simple answer. There are many descriptions of MT
techniques, and several overviews of current approaches --
over the years I have written a number myself. but these are not
in-depth comparisons of performance, reliability, speed, etc.
In fact, I do not know of any substantial comparisons of the kind
I think you may be seeking. What I can do is to search my database
for some sources that may be of help and to send you the references.

Dear prof Malek,

Maybe you did not yet receive the MT technique `isomporphy'. It was the
technique of the Rosetta system, but not only of them. Their book contains
references other projects.

In the attachment I've included a paper of mine which discusses
corpus-based MT-technologies from a more philosophical point of view.
The paper will be published at the 2. HongKong Postgraduate
day 23.10.1999
probably you find it interesting ...

best, Michael

(I asked Michael if I can share this document with the
MT-LIST members but he did not answer yet. If he agrees I'll do).
