THE MACHINE TRANSLATOR
Real-time E-mail Machine Translation (www.t-mail.com) is an e-mail
translation service. Any one can use it to send text documents to foreign
language speaking contacts. The following language translations are
supported: English-to-Spanish; Spanish-to-English; English-to-French;
French-to-English; English-to-German; German-to-English; English-to-Italian;
Italian-to-English; English-to-Portuguese; and Portuguese-to-English.
The instructions to use go as: end an e-mail as usual to a foreign language
colleague in your native tongue. In the “Cc:” line, send a carbon copy of
the message to the Universal T-Mail Translator at (Original
Lang)_(Translated Lang)@T-Mail.com. Do not use the parentheses “(” or “)”.
The original and translated languages must be at least two characters in
length.
This is a good service by which you can get plain text translated. The home
page (one and only page of the site) tells rather sternly to not to expect
attachments to be translated, pleads not to send documents in HTML.
There is another hitch, if you have a non-traditional e-mail address which
contains characters other than numbers and letters, T-Mail may not work. The
disclaimer says all for the skeptic-remember, it is a machine translation.
It is an aid to communication and cannot be relied upon for documents which
require precise translation. Please consider paying a human translator a
fair wage for this highly skilled service.
This site goes against the norms as it asks the surfers to try contacting
them on e-mail at [EMAIL PROTECTED] in case of any problems and goes on to
state- “but very rarely do we ever respond. You could try the Message Board
if you like but there are no guarantees there either.”
