Dear List Members,

I'm writing an article about the effect of machine translation on the
English teaching profession and I'd like to put in a short reference to
statistical machine translation. The only reference I've found today is by
Knight which reads as follows:

'p607 Current statistical techniques uncover translation rules from
bilingual training tests and use noun rules to translate new texts.'
Knight, K, (1999), Computational Linguistics,

I have a feeling, though, that this is not all there is to statistical MT.
Could anybody give me a quote that is more comprehensive (along with the
page numbers and reference)? Please reply to me directly if possible.

Many thanks for your time.
