[Mt-list] Machine Translation to increase translation throughput

Hi All, Can Machine Translation be used to increase translation throughput by facilitating translator's work? Have you heard of translators working on small scale translation (thus excluding the EU and the likes) who use Machine Translation (as oppose to CAT tools) to translate e-learning material and/or hardware user guides even if these have not been written with Controlled English. I would be interested in hearing of case studies or life experiences on this.
