Hello everybody I have followed this list for some years now, and now it is my turn to contribute a little.
The company I work for has recently released a SMS based translation service, in Thailand. Tourists from UK, France, Germany, Australia, Switzerland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland, in addition to locals in Thailand, can send a SMS and request a translation between English and Thai. If the phone is a Thai one, the translation is sent with Thai letters, otherwise it is transliterated. The user may override this default behaviour. There is a specific number to send the SMS to in each of the above-mentioned countries. The MT-engine is Parsit, from NECTEC in Thailand. Parsit is based on an engine from NEC in Japan. As we all know, MT might not give more than a rough idea of the meaning. And bad spelling and grammar, which is typical of SMS', makes it even worse. We have built in some pre-processing to get rid of some of the worst problems, and Parsit have done a very good job. Our SW allows us to fairly easy integrate MT-engines as "building blocks". So much for the introduction. Now, I would like to ask about two things. 1. Pre-processing. I am looking for a fully automatic tool for pre-editing the messages, both on spelling and grammar. 2. We are interested in cooperation with anyone who develop MT-engines, commercial or on research basis. It could be on major languages or less spoken languages. -- Kind regards Øyvind Strøm Chief Technical Officer Pock Mobile as [EMAIL PROTECTED] +4521746911 _______________________________________________ Mt-list mailing list
