All,

Bundled commercial packages of speech dictation + MT or MT + Text-to-speech have appeared over the years.

Do these software packages tend to be just another birthday present to translate a business correspondence letter once in a while?

See "Converser for HealthCare" (SpokenTranslation, M. Seligman).

Simpley packaging ASR+MT+SS does not lead to successful products, it seems.
The first release was Talk&Translate, a combination of ViaVoice and PersonalTranslator (an improvment from LMT), it was demonstrated at COLING-2000 by Kurt Eberle of Linguatech (divided into Linguatech and Lingenio, it seems).

Or are there combinations of speech and MT (software packages or customized
enterprise level systems) being used by real users in business and industry
contexts for ongoing communication needs?

Are speech + MT applications being used in combination with Voice over IP
telephony?

See A.Falaise. Actuall, Prosodie tried hard to do it, but ASR over the phone or IP is too bad at the moment when it comes to unlimited speech and unknown speakers.
