Dear all,
thanks to Ziyuan Yao for his posting. A couple of years ago we were
actively developing a similar, free/open-source annotator, called
Orthoepikon (http://home.gna.org/orthoepikon/), which uses Apertium
(http://www.apertium.org) lexical processing tools and a general,
dictionary based approach, but used actual examples from the
letter-sound system of the language instead of diacritics, which I
believe to be more intuitive. Example files are given for Catalan and a
very short one (proof-of-concept) for French. The Orthoepikon project is
now dormant, but anyone wishing to reactivate it is welcome.

PIE Transformer automatically adds diacritics to English words on a
Web page to indicate their pronunciations. This has three uses:
1. For English-as-a-second-language (ESL) people to learn correct
English word pronunciations.
2. For native English-speaking children to learn how to read. (See "No
