[With apologies for delayed notification] *Gennadi Lembersky, 2013 EAMT Best Thesis Awardee *
Four PhD theses were received as candidates to the 2013 edition of the EAMT Best Thesis Award, and all were eligible. A panel of four EAMT members (Kepa Sarasola, Khalil Sima'an, Antonio Toral, and Mikel L. Forcada) was assembled to review the theses. The panel carefully considered how challenging the problem tackled in each thesis was, how relevant the results are for machine translation as a field, and what is the the strength of their impact in terms of scientific publications. After a final deliberation, the panel has decided to grant the 2013 edition of the EAMT Best Thesis Award to Gennadi Lembersky's thesis "The Effect of Translationese on Statistical Machine Translation" (University of Haifa, Israel, supervised by Shuly Wintner).
Dr. Gennadi Lemberski will receive a prize of EUR500, together with a suitably-inscribed certificate. In addition, Dr Lembersky has been invited to present a summary of the thesis at the Annual Conference of the EAMT (EAMT-2014) which will take place in Dubrovnik, Croatia, June 16-18, 2014. In order to facilitate this, the EAMT will waive the winner's registration costs, and will make available a travel bursary of EUR200.
