The Multilingual Technologies Research Lab/Language Technology Lab of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) is seeking to fill a full time position with a

*Senior Researcher (machine learning-based MT and NLP)*

in the areas of statistical and machine-learning based Machine Translation, Natural Language Processing, Multilingual Technologies and Data for a portfolio of large-scale and high-profile national and international research projects. The position is located at DFKI Saarbrücken, Germany.

Candidates

·have a PhD in data-driven, statistical and machine-learning based approaches to machine translation and natural language processing;

·have a strong track record (research publications) in statistical and machine-learning based MT and NLP;

·are excellent problem solvers, and clear, creative and independent thinkers;

·have excellent people and communication skills;

·are highly articulate in both written and oral presentations of scientific results;

·enjoy leading and motivating research teams;

·enjoy working with international research teams to deliver world class science;

·have excellent proficiency of English; proficiency of spoken and written German and additional languages are a plus;

·are proactive, and have excellent organisational and management skills;

·strongly engage in the acquisition and delivery of research projects, including project applications (international, EU, national), project management, reporting and dissemination of scientific results;

·enjoy contributing to the development of the next generation of researchers (in supervisory committees at the PhD, MSc and BSc levels);

·enjoy turning research results into societal benefits.

While ideal candidates have 2+ years post-PhD research experience, we will consider otherwise outstanding applicants (without post-PhD experience) and encourage them to apply. Successful candidates will work closely with lead Principal Investigators and Project Consortia in order to ensure outstanding science, people development and project delivery and acquisition.

The position is open until filled. The initial contract is for 2-3 years.Successful candidates will be offered a competitive salary based on qualifications and experience.

The Language Technology Lab of the DFKI, led by Prof. Josef van Genabith and Prof. Hans Uzskoreit, counts among the leading research groups in language technology. The Multilingual Technologies Group is located on the University of Saarland Campus, offering an excellent research environment. The University of Saarland has a strong research focus on Natural Language Processing and Computer Science, with one of the largest Computer Science Schools in Germany, two Computer Science Max-Planck Institutes, the Cluster of Excellence in Multimodal Computing and Interaction, the Computational Linguistics department and the Collaborative Research Center1102 on Information Density and Linguistic Encoding.
