Heidelberg University, Germany

The Statistical Natural Language Processing Lab at the Department of
Computational Linguistics at Heidelberg University (
http://www.cl.uni-heidelberg.de/statnlpgroup/), led by Prof. Stefan
Riezler, invites applications for a fully funded Postdoc position. The
position is situated in a research project on bandit/reinforcement learning
for spoken language translation, funded by the German Research Foundation
(DFG). Furthermore, it is highly recommended that the Postdoc candidate
contributes to the lab and the study program by regularily teaching in our
Computational Linguistics program. The appointment is for up to three years
and starts at the earliest convenience in 2018. Payment is according to the
German TV-L 13 scale (http://www.dfg.de/formulare/60_12/60_12_en.pdf)

REQUIREMENTS: Applicants should
1. hold a PhD in Computational Linguistics, Computer Science or a related
field;
2. have a proven record of excellence in research in the fields of machine
learning and/or machine translation;
3. have strong programming skills;
4. have experience in large-scale experimentation;
5. have good communication skills in English, both oral and written.

ABOUT THE STATNLP LAB: The group's focus is on machine learning for machine
translation. Current and future research directions include neural machine
translation, learning to translate from bandit feedback, and spoken
language translation. The group's philosophy is to collaborate on research
projects and to share knowledge inside the team and with the students of
the department. The group is well-connected internationally and cooperates
closely with industry partners and the department of computer science (
http://www.ifi.uni-heidelberg.de) and the interdisciplinary center for
scientific computing (https://typo.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de) at Heidelberg
University. Concerning Heidelberg, well, as Goethe already said: "Die Stadt
in ihrer Lage und mit ihrer ganzen Umgebung hat, man darf sagen, etwas
Ideales."
