(Sorry for multiple posting) The Human Language Technology - Machine Translation (HLT-MT) unit at Fondazione Bruno Kessler, Trento (Italy) will sponsor one project-specific grant for doctoral students starting with the A.Y. 2019-2020.
Title: Neural Speech Translation Deadline: May 20, 2019 The candidate will team up a world-class research effort developing cutting-edge solutions able to advance the state of the art in end-to-end Speech Translation. Possible research topics include the design of methods to improve the audio signal representation in the encoder, the use of weakly supervised learning techniques, the efficient adaptation of existing models to new speakers or domains. No specific knowledge of languages is required, while strong programming skills are a must. Students will have access to a state of the art cluster with 1520 CPUs and 36 last generation GPUs, and to large cloud computing facilities with both CPUs and GPUs. Machine translation is a very active field, both in academia and industry, and offers great opportunities for internships and job placements. The doctoral fellowship will be formally pursued at the ICT International Doctoral School of the University of Trento <https://ict.unitn.it/>. The program starts in November 2019, has a length of three years and includes attendance of courses during the first two years, while the third is fully dedicated to research work.
