No ETA lock down on those but they do lock up stiff so that’s something and one
less thing to go wrong. ETA is good but it has a habit (Or had) of getting an
airlock which stops it sticking down usually after the bike has been on its
side for sometime, like in an aircraft ;0). Leaving the bike upside down for a
day cures it most of the time.
The BB is an offshoot of ISIS so therefore not very durable. Maybe stick a pair
of LX cranks of either Hollowtech or HTII variety. I know I get years out of XT
splined BB’s but as HTII is more current it may be easier to get spares if you
do bugger something.

Get one of those Giants thats just been serviced and stick a pair of Marz MX
pros as below. Maybe stick a decent bottom bracket in it, everything else can
be bodged but its hard a cobble a BB axle back together.

Wish I could come to NZ with you, check out the Ground effect website as a good
first point of contact, Nelson for xc and Queenstown for dh would be cool.

If I was away for a year there is no way on earth I would be putting Fox forks
on my bike. OK so Peru and Chile are hardly Northumberland for Mud but is it
work the risk having them in dire need of a service and completely borked half
way through the year.
Assuming you’re not going to be near service centres and might need to pull
them apart yourself in an emergency get Zocchies. At a push Rockshox Reba or
something.

[mtbne-l] Advice needed!
I need help. but on a completely unrelated matter, as some may know i'm off to
Peru and chile and Nz for a year and a bit cycle touring. Now heres the dilemma,
which bike to take, now the Glory is getting shipped to NZ so you can stop
worrying about that one, it's the actual cycling bike thats the problem.I want
a bike thats not too heavy but can take the knocks in Peru and Nz, i was
thinking the Giant XTC
http://www.cyclestore.co.uk/productDetails.asp?productID=8106as i can get these
for cheap (£250), but the forks are bit shite, so i'm thinking off upgrading
them too Fox's with a lock out.any body know anywhere i can get a cheap pair?
Or does anybody else have any ideas of a good all rounder that doesn't cost a
fortune, thinking under a grand.any help appreciated! Jim
