If your looking for a small hardtail to playabout on then look through the 
classifieds on descent-world.com, if its a crosscountry bike try 
singletrackworld.com . If you can stretch to 400 quid an exhire kona caldera 
from glentress is a good buy, their well looked after and are replaced after 
only 30 rides so have less milage than a lot of 2nd hand bikes.
