First, a small contribution: I found that using pandoc as the html-to-text
converter lets me view incoming HTML in org-mode syntax: (setq
mu4e-html2text-command "pandoc -f html -t org")

Nice. How do you view the resulting message? I've tried using
org-link-minor-mode[1] to properly display the org-mode links via:

(add-hook 'mu4e-view-mode-hook 'org-link-minor-mode)

but it's not working, I think because mu4e is inserting the [n] markers
into the output?

I don't have a special viewer. I'm just viewing the raw Org
formatting. In pine and alpine I have my alternate editor set to
emacs, and org-mode turned on for files with name "pico*", so I see
your text as plain text when viewing, and then as org when replying
and I'm in edit mode.

  -k.
