mu4e doesn't really support tags like notmuch does; and it's not
planning too, either. The idea is that mu4e shouldn't touch your
message-contents, yet all the state is the maildir (so you don't loose
anything when you remove the xapian db).

If you're a heavy user of tagging, I'd recommend using notmuch instead.

The label-changing functionality in mu4e is a bit of a hack, but seems
to work well of enough for people.

You can set up tag searches and put them on the startup screen, like any
custom search (see the manual, bookmarks etc.).
