replace() screws up the main window alignmen

Bug description:
After using replace(), I find that the main window is misaligned 'up' by a line
per use... This corrects itself when text is received from the mud, but until
it does part of your output buffer continues down the screen beyond your view,
and you cannot scroll down to see it again.
