I don't think that this is a Qt4.8 issue, but rather some other change that was made on Ubuntu 12 compared to 11. Similar bugs have hit Mudlet on OSX before and have been "fixed". The same "fixes" will probably also work on Linux. in any case this is no issue on Windows
