For the first time this season we've seen the type of attacking football we have all come to expect from the boys. The big difference for today I think is that we had bodies up front to put the ball away which just doesn't happen as much (or as quickly) with 4-5-1. This was a complete endorsement of 4-4-2 as our best formation, which was even more evident when Van Nistelrooy was subbed and we seemed to adopt 4-5-1 again for the majority of the rest of the game. As soon as we did and put the emphasis on our defence rather than our attack we gave up a great deal of possession.
All in all an excellent result particularly considering the injuries, but I hope that it wasn't just a one off formation change, especially when we remember that we were playing a top 6 team today and not the league whipping boys.
