Hi everyone

I've got mixed feelings to see that we have gone through to the next round
of the Worthington Cup. The players have to play more games now and we have
seen in the past that top clubs need a good squad of players. Guys like
Sylvestre, Ruud and Ole have played alotta games this season. There are no
signs of fatigue now, but it could happen. With the small(ish) squad we
have, players could be asked to play alot of games as is the case now (and
out of position). Injuries can and very often happens all the time and we
need to cater for this.

With that thought, I'm looking forward to the transfer window. Sylvestre has
been brilliant this season, but what is going to happen if he gets injured.
O' Shea can play there, but he is not a long term prospect and it isn't his
best position. Paul Tierney is on a season long loan, do we have any left
backs that can replace Sylvestre? What if Ruud is injured again for a long
period of time, will the rest of the players make up for his bag loads of
goals? Another striker is premium.

Back to the Worthington Cup. I think Fergie's mix of first and reserve
players is the right mix to get the younger players to improve and giving
them a chance of playing more games (by advancing) and also to play next to
the top players and learning from them. Chelsea in the next round. They have
been playing more first team players than we have and I would say that we
will be the under-dogs for the game. That game will also be at a good time
to give several injured players the opportunuity to continue their comeback
to full fitness. I'm really looking forward to it. I would have preferred
another first division side, but u cannot have everything.

Next, the Arse. It would be interesting to see the line-up. Whether or not
Veron plays is crucial. Arse plays with great speed and Veron could be left
looking silly (again?). I think Sylvestre should play in the centre of
defense or even in front of them to man mark Henry as Sylvestre has pace and
strength to counter Henry. It is going to be a cracker of a game and the
attitude and confidence is where it should be now for a game like this. The
next 2 games is vital. 2 Losses and people will start talking of a crisis
again. The Christmas period is also vital as we need to make sure that we
build on the platform that has been laid now and go from strength to
strength.
