Ruud van Nistelrooy believes he is on his way to becoming the complete
striker at Old Trafford.

The Manchester United ace has been under instructions from manager Sir Alex
Ferguson to create goals as well as score them.

It is a message the 19million buy from PSV Eindhoven appears to have taken
on board.

Van Nistelrooy had a hand in both United's goals on Saturday -from Juan
Sebastian Veron and Paul Scholes - in the crucial 2-0 victory against
Arsenal at Old Trafford.

"I always want to score but the manager is always saying to me that is also
important for a striker to hold up the ball and to create opportunities for
your colleagues," said van Nistelrooy.

"That gave me something to think about as I have always been a striker, who
just worried about scoring, not losing the ball.

"I have tried to add that to my game and am working hard on it. I am happy
to play my part like this."

The victory against Arsenal took United to within three points of the
reigning Premiership champions. Van Nistelrooy said it was the best United
display he had been involved in.

"We are back now and it (our season) starts now. If we can continue like
this we can have a very good season, " he told MUTV.

"We have to be sharp all the time because if we lose a few then it is going
to be very difficult to come back again. It is very tight with five clubs
within four or five points.

"We said a month ago if we did well in our next few games it would put us
back in it.

"Arsenal are obviously a very good team but our performance was the best I
have ever played in.

"It was such a good team performance. Every United player on the pitch was
at his best. Then you see we are hard to beat.

"We were not afraid to lose it. We just went out and wanted to give
everything and that's what we did. The victory was deserved."

Arsenal complained that van Nistelrooy had handled the ball in the build-up
to Veron's opener. The United striker admitted he had used his arm but said
it was unintentional.

"It touched my arm but I didn't deliberately control it with my arm. The
ball came up from my thigh to my arm," admitted van Nistelrooy.

"The referee can decide to give a foul for that but I think he decided not
to because it wasn't deliberate hand ball."
