ALEX - "CITY DESERVED DRAW"

United boss Alex Ferguson saw his side drop two vital points in the Manchester derby
then admitted City deserved a draw. The Red Devils enjoyed the lion's share of
possession but could not score the second goal that would have killed the contest. To
their credit City hung on and kept going forward in search of an equaliser. Keegan's
side snatched a share of the spoils in the final five minutes when Goater jumped
highest to nod home a chipped cross from Wright-Phillips.

Alex Ferguson's blood pressure would have been tested seconds later when Goater had
the ball in the net for a second time. Fortunately for the Red side of the City the
Goat's winning goal was disallowed for an earlier infringement. Another derby victory
would have flattered the Blues but Ferguson gave them credit for never letting their
heads drop. The United manager felt his side had done enough to claim the three points
but were punished for a moment of carelessness: "It's a blow, a disappointment,
because we had the opportunities and the possession.

"In fairness they deserve a point because they kept going at us without making any
great chances. The way they play they'll always use width - but we should have hit
them on the counter-attack. "There are a lot of games to come and we've been in great
form. But we've been careless and it's cost us." Ferguson also revealed that Paul
Scholes, Mikael Silvestre and Ryan Giggs all picked up knocks and are doubtful to
represent their respective countries in the midweek friendlies.
