France defender Mikael Silvestre says he will go to the Confederations Cup this winner but thinks too much is expected of international footballers. The Manchester United man, speaking after France's 6-0 win over Malta in Lens on Saturday, admitted a call-up would not please his club side - and insisted that he believed players were now "pawns" at the mercy of football's money men. "I haven't booked my holidays so I will go if I am called up," said Silvestre in remarks reported in L'Equipe. "But I don't think it's a good thing." The defender said he believed France's dismal showing in last year's World Cup was in part due to their efforts in the previous year's Confederations Cup. "We were below our normal level because of our exertions the previous year," said Silvestre. "We must learn the lessons. "We are pawns, coaches' pawns, business leaders' pawns, like meat. Everyone acts according to their own interests." [ skysports ]
