I tuned in the TV to find the game at the start of overtime, and as it
turned out it was timed just perfectly over here for a nice little
afternoon nap. I don't think I've ever heard Old Trafford sound so quiet
on the telly, and that's saying something. Considering it was two teams at
the verge of winning or losing the greatest prize in the sport, you'd have
thought the fans (or the players, for that matter) would show a bit more
intensity. Both groups of fans were notably quieter than the travelling
contingent of an ordinary mid-table premiership side. "Oh, look, they've
managed to cross a ball past the goal mouth. Let's all clap."

Once it went to penalties at 0-0, I expected the atmosphere to get
better. It was, if anything, quieter. At least, I figured, we'll get a
goal. Almost wrong there as well. As it turned out, the trophy went to
the team that managed to convert more than half its penalties--Milan, 3-2.

Once the thing was over, THEN the Milan supporters started getting
loud. "You only sing when you've wo-on...." All in all, a ghastly
spectacle.
