Cuddly Pete's statement (below) about Chelsea reaching agreement with "Veron's people" before making an offer to United doesn't seem to have upset Fleet Street's finest, but weren't we attacked by the PSG chairman and the ABU nation for doing exactly the same thing? We didn't talk with Ronnie directly (nor have Chelsea had direct talks with Seba) but we reached agreement on personal terms with Ronnie's agent, and then put in an offer to PSG, just as Chelsea have done now. Some people thought that our breach of transfer etiquette may have cost us the deal.
So either Chelsesa have had some secret agreement with United that they could talk with Seba's agent (which we didn't have with PSG), or it's just another case of one rule for us and a different rule for everybody else. Frankly, I go with the first theory: Cuddly Pete has been winking saucily at Chelsea and flashing his teeth at them for weeks. We can only hope that the plc (and Fergie too, I suspect) have had a change of mind and decide to keep Seba .... and announce it one minute before Chelsea's CL deadline runs out.
