Just saw this on Soccernet: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Man United handed UEFA fine Manchester United were today fined 14,000 by UEFA after their fans caused disturbances at the Champions League game against Real Madrid in the Bernabeu last season.
United were reported to UEFA disciplinary chiefs after more than a thousand fans travelled to Madrid without tickets and some tried to break their way through barriers to get into the stadium. The situation led to scuffles involving local police and crowd congestion around the stadium. Real Madrid have been fined the same amount by UEFA for a lack of organisation in failing to segregate supporters and separate out those without tickets. Meanwhile, UEFA Cup winners Porto have been fined 23,000 for selling tickets for the final against Celtic at up to 20 times their face value. European football's governing body investigated the Portuguese club following complaints from Celtic fans and found that tickets for the final in Seville which should have cost between 50 and 100 euros were being sold for 1,200 euros (850). A statement by UEFA said: 'Porto have been fined 50,000 Swiss francs for having offered tickets at inflated prices on the black market for their UEFA Cup final match against Celtic FC on May 21 2003 in Seville.' Newcastle have been given a 2,100 fine for improper conduct of players after five were booked during the Champions League qualifier first leg against Partizan Belgrade. The disciplinary body also dismissed appeals by Alan Shearer and Andy O'Brien against the bookings. Finally, three clubs were fined for racism: Czech side Slovan Liberec 5,500 for fans' racist behaviour against Schalke; FK Leotar of Bosnia-Herzegovina 5,000 against Slavia Prague; Polish side Wisla Krakow 4,800 against Anderlecht. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ** For great Emap magazine subscription & gift offers visit http://www.emapmagazines.co.uk ** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The information in this email is intended only for the addressee(s) named above.
