UNITED RESERVES - LEEDS 2 MANCHESTE UNITED 2 Report from www.leedsutd-mad.co.uk - AARON Lennon put in another performance that left the Belle Vue crowd eager to see more of him in the first team. The youngster made one goal and then rescued Leeds from defeat with a last minute equaliser. The first year Academy player was the undoubted star of the show in a hotly contested mini War of The Roses. He gave Manchester United problems all night and got his just rewards. The draw moved Steve Agnew's side up to 3rd in the Premier Reserve League North. The Whites had opened the scoring after ten minutes thanks to some brilliant attacking play by Lennon. In a classic counter-attacking move, Simon Walton headed clear to McMaster who in turn released the ball to Lennon wide on the right, the 16-year-old then went on a thirty yard run that saw him glide inbetween two defenders and square the ball for Cyril Chapuis. The French striker's shot was miscued, but fell to Didier Domi at the back post who could not miss with an open goal at his disposal. The final two touches may have come from Frenchmen, but there was little doubt that the goal was made by Leeds-born and bred midfield ace Aaron Lennon. Chapuis came close to bagging himself a goal on his United debut when Lennon again made a fine chance for the Marseille man on 25 minutes, swinging in a cross that presented Cyril with a free header, but he sent the ball wide. Man Utd equalised just before the half hour mark through South African international Quintin Fortune, who took advantage of the defence backing off his 60-yard run. Fortune picked the ball up before the half-way mark and feinted his way past Constable on the edge of the box before his direct run on goal finished with him slotting the ball home just inside the right hand corner. Simon Johnson came close to restoring the lead for Leeds immediately but fired just past the post after Domi's blocked cross fell to him just inside the area. The visitors appealed for a penalty with eight minutes of the half left after Henry McStay brought down Kieron Richardson, the offence though was just on the edge of the area and rightly no penalty was awarded. They were awarded one though when a minute later Simon Walton caught Neil Wood with an outstretched leg after the Man Utd captain had flicked the ball past him. Nardiello drilled the spotkick past Carson to give the visitors the lead. Jamie McMaster will be disappointed that he did not level things four minutes before half-time when Simon Johnson flicked Domi's ball into the Aussie born attacking midfielder's path. He was left with just the keeper to beat but spurned his chance as he fired well wide. Leeds has three shots on target in the half, whilst in comparison the visitors had scored from both of their accurate shots. After the break Eagles rattle the woodwork with a shot from the edge of the area, and Leeds found it hard work in search of an equaliser. Lennon missed a chance when he flashed at the shot and sent it wide after McMaster's flick on the half-way line had sent the Chapeltown youngster free. The visitors could have sown the points up when Richardson's cross was knocked over the bar by Danny Pugh from barely six yards after an hour. Henry McStay scored in last season's reserves win over United in April at Belle Vue, and came close to another goal this time when he drilled a shot barely a foot wide from 25-yards. The equaliser came right in injury time, Lennon starting and finishing another great move. His initial shot was blocked from outside the area, but he chased the loose ball to the byline, then swung in a cross for McStay at the back post who headed it back across the face of goal where Lennon finished confidently from a tight angle. Steve Agnew's side had grabbed a deserved draw deep into injury time, and for Lennon's performance alone it was a well deserved point. The visitors own attacking play had also made for an entertaining game. Leeds: Carson, McStay, Domi, Keegan, Walton, Constable, Lennon, Woods (Winter 78), Chapuis (Armstrong 78), McMaster, Johnson.
