I can't stand north american commentators when it comes to footy. Some of these guys just don't know when to keep their gobs shut, and when to open them. Much like basketball and hockey commentators, except for Harry Neal and Dick Irving of Hockey Night in Canada when it comes to hockey. They know what to say, keep things on topic, and when they do stray, it's momentairly which can be nice. to be honest, the commentating for FIFA 2003 for PS2(Rangers star Ally mcCoist and John Motson) is alot better than the North Americans, and 'cos it's a game, it's repetitive, but at least it's not OOB.

North American commentators are perfectly fine as long as they're broadcasting a sport they know something about. Most of the "play by play" guys--Bob Costas, Al Michaels, Vin Scully, etc.--are pretty low-key in their approach. It's the "color" guys who are more, well, colorful. That's Tommy Smythe's job. But the problem isn't that he's American-style. The problem is that he sucks. Is this just a North American phenomenon? I often hear various ex-player commentators abused on the list (Bob Wilson springs to mind). They've gotta be better that Ol' Onion Bag, but I bet they're not that different from a run-of-the-mill baseball or hockey announcer.
