RONALDO READY FOR GUNNERS - BOSS

Manchester United's teenage sensation Ronaldo is set to face Arsenal this afternoon in
his biggest test so far. Sir Alex Ferguson has no fears about turning to the
Portuguese youngster. Ronaldo will step into the spotlight if United fail to shake off
a string of minor injuries and Ferguson said: "I wouldn't be afraid to play him. I
think the boy has shown his courage and his ability and he has shown he has got the
temperament for the occasions.

"I'm hoping that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is fit because he does well against Arsenal but
I have mixed feelings about it at the moment and will wait to see how things go in
terms of injuries." Even though Roy Keane has been cleared to play United had four
players under treatment on Saturday as Ferguson finalised his plans for the
top-of-the-bill showpiece at Old Trafford. Ferguson added: "We have a few bumps and
bruises about the place. I was lucky that we got to 4-0 on Tuesday so I was able to
take John O'Shea, Solskjaer and Nicky Butt off because they were carrying injuries.

"If they had gone 90 minutes, they would not have played on Sunday so we had that
luxury of taking them off and hopefully that will make a difference." Ferguson is
trying to play down the hype surrounding Sunday's clash between the clubs who have
competed for Premiership supremacy since the Gunners prevented United from winning
three titles in a row in 1998. The United boss refutes claims Sunday's winners will
gain a significant advantage in the race for the championship but recognises the
importance the fixture holds.

Ferguson said: "It's always a significant game because three points are three points
and it could make a difference at the end of the season. "Being so early it is not
looked upon that way and you can only measure that at the end of the season. "The
league will not be won on Sunday, nor will it be lost. Nobody will be getting medals
or cups or anything like that but at the end of the season either club might look back
and say 'that cost us'. We lost at Southampton in the last minute and we might look
back and say that point was an important one. "Over the years, when we have lost the
league we have looked at certain games where we have lost games or dropped points, but
in this league you drop points. Every team has a blip and you just have to make sure
you don't get as big a blip as the rest."
