Dindane admits United dream
Thursday, 16 October 2003
Anderlecht star Aruna Dindane has issued a come-and-get-me plea to long-term
suitors Manchester United.
The Ivory Coast international sealed a new deal with his Belgian side in the
summer, despite attention from Sir Alex Ferguson (pictured) - but Dindane
admitted he is still looking for a Premiership move.
"If I want to become better, I have to play against more sides like Bayern
Munich," Dindane told 'Sport Magazine' after the 1-1 Champions League draw
between the two sides.
"I hope Anderlecht would not block a big move if it came up.
"I am still dreaming about playing in England - and if Manchester United are
already interested in me, I don't see why I can't have this dream."
The African star is valued at around 4 million by his club - and at 22 is
very much one for the future.
After moving to Belgium with Anderlecht in 2000, a goal against Real Madrid
in the Champions League that season helped his rise to prominence.

Date set for Ferguson's hearing
Sir Alex Ferguson will appear before a Football Association disciplinary
hearing on Monday to answer misconduct charges.
The Manchester United manager elected to have a personal hearing after being
charged with two separate counts, one relating generally to alleged
`improper conduct' and the other specifically to claims that he used
insulting or abusive language to the fourth official, during the Red Devils'
match at Newcastle on August 23.
Ferguson faces a touchline ban or a heavy fine, or both, if found guilty of
the charges which were brought after his tirade against fourth official Jeff
Winter and referee Uriah Rennie.
If he is found guilty, Ferguson's previous good conduct will be taken into
account although the FA commission would take a dim view if it is proved
that Ferguson labelled any of the officials as 'cheats'.
The FA released a statement today saying: 'The FA confirmed today that Sir
Alex Ferguson's disciplinary hearing will take place on Monday, 20th
October. Ferguson was charged on 28th August with misconduct for breaches of
FA Rule E1 and E2.
'The charges related to the alleged use of abusive and/or insulting language
to a match official during the match between Newcastle United and Manchester
United on Saturday, 23rd August.'
Ferguson was captured on television delivering an angry verbal volley at
Winter after referee Rennie had already ordered the Scot from the St James'
Park touchline.
Ferguson was furious at Rennie's failure to award a free-kick and send off
Andy O'Brien after the Newcastle defender's challenge on Ryan Giggs when he
was clear on goal.
He was seen to kick a ball away in anger as he continued to voice his
discontent, Winter called Rennie to the touchline to inform him of
Ferguson's comments and the referee then ordered him out of the dug-out. As
he was making his way down the tunnel, Ferguson turned back and launched
another volley of abuse at Winter.

Sunderland accept 2m Bellion payout
Sunderland have accepted a compensation package from Manchester United for
striker David Bellion, which includes an initial 2million guaranteed fee
payable immediately.
The compensation payout also includes further build up payments worth up to
1million, payable on appearances and international call-ups.
The deal also includes a sell-on clause ensuring the Wearside club will
benefit from any future transfer of Bellion.
Sunderland chairman Bob Murray said: 'We're happy with the package and feel
that it is entirely deserved as we lost an exciting and talented young
player.
'It is to the benefit of both clubs that we have been able to reach an
agreement without the need for a tribunal.'
The pacy Frenchman moved to Old Trafford after he snubbed the offer of a new
contract with Sunderland after his original deal expired in June.
United reserve-team coach Ricky Sbragia played a part in the move - he had
detailed information on Bellion from his time at Sunderland, who captured
Bellion from Cannes in 2001.
Bellion made just three starts for the Wearsiders, although he was used as a
substitute 15 times and netted the winner in the home game against Aston
Villa last season - his only goal for the club.
He has only played a peripheral role for United so far this season, although
he made a goalscoring debut in the pre-season defeat of Celtic in Seattle.

THREE-MONTH BAN FOR RIO?
Thursday October 16 2003
PFA chief Gordon Taylor fears that the Football Association will succumb to
extraneous pressure and impose a lengthy ban on Rio Ferdinand for missing a
drugs test.
FIFA have indicated that they will be monitoring the case closely with a
view to launching their own investigation should they deem the FA's verdict
too lenient.
It is that kind of pressure from the world governing body that Taylor fears
will force the FA to sacrifice objectivity on the altar of appeasement and
impose at least a three-match ban on the 30million defender.
Taylor told the Daily Mail: "They (FIFA) have intimated that unless he is
banned for three months they won't be happy and they will see fit to
intervene.
"It is that kind of pressure that makes it very difficult now for the FA to
be objective and deal with it in line with previous precedent."
The FA have requested Ferdinand's mobile phone records and additional
information from Manchester United to aid their inquiry before deciding on
the nature of the charge to hand the Red Devils defender.
Players' chief Taylor, who has savaged the FA for their handling of the
matter, is determined that future cases are dealt with using greater
professionalism and that the confidentiality of players is guaranteed.
"It is imperative in these cases that the confidentiality is kept until the
matter has been dealt with. Here we have had everybody giving an opinion,
the world and his wife, including UEFA, FIFA and Uncle Tom Cobley.
"It does make it more difficult but we are where we are and we had better
get on with it now. We have to clearly do all we can in future to get the
testing procedure so this never happens again and for the confidentiality
aspect to be nailed down."
