That was the way it went for the first 10min of the second half when Utd
were overrunning them. Giggs was up front, Fortune out wide and Scholes
was in central midfield for most of the first half when Rangers actually
looked like they had a chance.

The above formation is easily preferable theough as it has all 3 in their
best positions: Scholesy up front where he can provide or shoot himself
(and keeps his ever-so slightly short-legged rabid tackling away from our
area); Quinton is proving to be a serious contender for that central
holding role; Giggs is more 50/50: not quite being he wide player he was
and he probably is better suited for that pocket role nowadays -- just his
bad luck Scholes is the better player for that job.

I think Fergie was expecting a more physical confrontation -- hence all the
tacklers in midfield. Ordinarily now I'd be expecting a bloodbath in the
return game given that Rangers wouldn't want to go down without extracting
something from the game at OT (for their fans mainly), even if it's nothing
more than a severed limb -- but then again this isn't a real Scottish team
is it? Bar McLeish on the sideline and Moore(?) in the centre of their
defence they were all furrinners (+ Alan Ball's sprog).
