Yes, languages do fall into place...In time...And kids do it at their own pace...
I went through the same thing when my daughter was a toddler...She only spoke and understood Spanish...Whenever our office had an activity to which the kids were invited my "friend" Rachel would rail on me because my daughter didn't know English...Her daughter was the same age as mine...But she spoke no Spanish even though her mom knew the language...I kept telling her that my daughter would learn English later on, in school...My daughter's pre-school class was for Spanish speakers and we would speak only in Spanish around her and my sister's son...Both little girls found a way to play and interact...It was Rachel who had a problem with my daughter not knowing English at the time...In time my daughter learned the language and now excels in both English and Spanish... Like Thomas said, ask your parents to make their comments TO YOU away from others and most importantly away from your son...
