Thank you for all replies!!! At first we worry about the child taking longer to bond with us because of the 2 languages, but at the same time, my mother language is Portuguese and everybody tells me about how much better a mother communicate her loves to her children through her mother language...
My husband speaks very some Portuguese but is far from being fluent, so he would speak to the kids in English only.... --- Em ter, 19/8/08, Sharon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> escreveu: De: Sharon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Assunto: [munchkins] Re:adoption and languages.... very unusual situation... Para: [email protected] Data: Terça-feira, 19 de Agosto de 2008, 14:00 Congratulations! Yes, I've seen bilingual families who have adopted and launched both new languages with success with their new "addition". The original language will not be "forgotten" but simply go into hibernation (if you will...) Right now, it's important that he fit into his new family. Conserving the original language can be a project for the future, one that is still eaiser for an "already bilingual" child. It will work! Just live your lives and he'll fit in!
