Happy new year, everyone!
Many thanks to all of you who contributed to our collective work on the
multimedia front last year!
We’re deeply grateful for all that you are doing to help create a richer media
experience --- and now that we have a full multimedia team, we look forward to
making some great progress together this year.
To kick off the new year, we just posted a proposed multimedia vision for 2016,
which was prepared with guidance from community members. We invite you to check
it out here on Commons:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Multimedia_Features/Vision_2016
This hypothetical scenario is intended for discussion purposes, to help us
visualize together possible improvements to our user experience over the next
three years. This particular exploration proposes ways to integrate Wikipedia
more closely with Commons, so that Wikipedians could contribute or curate more
easily to our free media repository, wherever they are.
After you’ve viewed the video, we would be grateful if you could share your
feedback in this discussion:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:Multimedia_Features/Vision_2016
In coming weeks, we will be starting new discussions focusing on some important
features outlined in this overall vision, and would greatly appreciate your
continued participation, so we can make more informed decisions together as a
movement. More on this next week.
Thanks again for your thoughtful guidance. We look forward to more
collaborations with you!
All the best,
Fabrice
on behalf of the WMF Multimedia Team
