Looks like a great start! The thing I tried doing immediately, which I consider an essential feature for any photo zooming interface I would want to use, is zooming by scrolling the mouse wheel. As a photo person, I'm used to doing this all the time as part of my workflow for editing and viewing photos on my computer.
