But IMO that's orthogonal. Adding a bunch of new options wouldn't make the switch to a new format significantly harder. At worst, it would mean the person who is adding the options would have to do it twice. (If you mean that improving thumbnail handling is a better place to focus energies on right now, I agree, but as you said volunteers are free to do whatever they want.)
