Glad to hear you want to give it a try! 
The best way to start is to check out a CVS copy, read doc/plugin-API.c
and check out other similar plugins. On the Mozilla side, you need to
figure out how to 

1) Get changes in the calendar/addressbook (database)
2) Modify entries in the database.

If Mozilla has some kind of API for this, it is _highly_ recommended to
use it. Changing the database file directly should only be used as a
last resort, since this implies lots of trouble.
