It builds ok for me, except for the python part that will require 
installing a bunch of python-pyrex and python-dev packages on Debian which 
I am doing right now. I'll look at adding some code to check for the 
presence of pyrexc and Python.h in configure. I'll also give it a try on 
my RedHat box in a little while.

Once I get into the code I'll let you know more :)
