I use UseMod with some patches too, I added a feature to prevent spam,
based on these lines:
* ban userids that have been used to create spam in the past
* ban IPs that have originated spam in the past
* ban certain strings from appearing in content (mainly drug and tobacco
references)
* reject changes that add text to a page which contains more than a
limited number of URLs
If any of the rules are broken the script appears to succeed but the
changes are dropped.
The last change was probably the most creative and effective. Without
the ability to add URLs the wiki is useless to spammers.
